When you say Jules Verne you'll pretty much think Nautilus and Phileas Fogg (from Around the World in 80 Days) or at least this is what comes to my mind first. As the game I'm going to review has nothing to do with Nautilus, I'll tell you a few things about Fogg. He is a very wealthy Englishman, although no one really knows how he obtained all his fortune. He has no relatives, so he spends all his time at the Reform Club, playing cards and discussing all the hot topics of the day. Following a harsh dispute with another member of the club, he embarks on a journey around the world, which he must complete in maximum 80 days.

Well, the "80 Days" game has nothing to do with Phileas Fogg. The story, although similar, takes place much later (1899 instead of 1872) and the main character is not exactly motivated by a bet, but by the thought of an arranged wedding. Oliver has big plans for himself and these include a trip to the USA, so an arranged wedding is the worst thing that could happen to him right now.

Fortunately, his uncle, a respected engineer and inventor, is about to lose all his fortune and reputation in a stupid bet, so he sends Oliver around the world to recover his four most famous patents. The trip will take you through cities like Cairo, Yokohama, San Francisco and Bombay. In each city Oliver must use all his knowledge and most of his money to recover the patents, but things get more complicated each time due to unforeseen reasons. His uncle visited those cities a long time ago, so things have changed and the people who know him might not welcome you with the same respect. That’s why you’ll have to earn it first.

During the game, Oliver will receive different amounts of money from his uncle and they usually fluctuate depending on the difficulty you’ve chosen in the beginning of the game. You will also notice the game keeping track of the days you spend in each city and comparing them with those necessary to Fogg to complete his journey, so you shouldn’t spend more than you should in a certain place. You can wander through the city, but in this case I recommend you to use some of the transportation means the game will offer you. One of the best is the flying carpet, mostly due to its increased speed, but also due to its funny nature. You’ll have to pay for it though, so if you're short on money, you'll have to pass that.
