One of the most pleasant surprises of 2004 has to be Star Wars: Battlefront. Even though most of the games starting with Star Wars are mediocre at best, Pandemic Studios managed to create a title that quickly won the hearts of many fans and became the best selling Star Wars game to date. The latter aspect couldn’t have gone unnoticed by The Powers That Be from Lucas Arts and the sequel didn’t take too long to be released. Didn’t see this one coming, did ya?
Like its predecessor, Battlefront 2 is built from the ground up for multiplayer. As a result, the core gameplay mechanics haven’t changed, and the Galactic Conquest and Rise of the Empire singleplayer modes server as an extended tutorial, to familiarize yourself with the new additions and maps, blowing up some bots in the process. The story from Rise of the Empire closely follows that of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, but you will see the events from the perspective of a clone soldier, member of the 501st battalion, which will later become Darh Vader’s elite strike unit. In this game mode, Pandemic tried to recreate the emotional story telling found usually in World War 2 based games, but in this case, the emotional impact would be almost non-existent. You are a soldier in a clone army after all.
