Whenever I have the chance to watch a French movie, I’m the happiest man on earth. I’m sick and tired of happy endings, screen adaptations of classic SF literature or so-called historic movies. I’m even tired of watching Discovery Channel or Animal Planet. So every time I get my hands on a European movie, I’m as happy as any person can be. However, the same cannot be said about the game industry. True, we have producers in France, Spain, Italy, Germany, even in the Czech Republic, Hungary or Romania, but the number of successful European games is far smaller compared to what’s happening across the Atlantic. Money? Experience? Who know?!
Restricted Area comes from Germany. I specifically wanted to mention this, because some very successful games were also made in Germany. This time however, it isn’t the case, because Restricted Area is a clone. We’re in the year 2080, a time when our fair planet has been turned into one giant garbage bin, thanks to the corporations hungry for information, technology, money and power. The first thing you’ll have to do will be to select a character, out of the four provided by the producers. Johnson is the weapons specialist, dressed like Neo, complete with sun-glasses, like the dungeons aren’t already dark enough. Kenji can fight with a sword like no other, but is otherwise incapable of wearing even the most common T-shirt, so he’ll charge the enemies half naked, like the soldiers from those old communist propaganda clips. Finally, the magical powers of Victoria are only dwarfed by the size of her boobs, while Jessica is the l33t h4x0r, with a small droid as a pet.
