Does the essence of evil ever die? It seems that Id and Nerve listened too much trash metal before developing Doom 3. Even since the first Doom or Quake, the music had a very powerful influence over Carmack & Co. and one such inspiration is called Slayer. As their music and words probably gave birth to famous games, Doom 3 was a natural appearance back in 2004. The Resurrection of Evil is the next horror title, a step forward if I may say so. As I stated in the preview, the action takes place two years since the events from Doom 3 and it seems that something strange is happening again. Our beloved marine is replaced by another, much like Sarge by the doctor Elizabeth McNeil.

In the beginning of the game, the UAC satellite detects a strange signal coming from Mars, so a team is sent to the Excavation Dig Site 1, the place where the excavators where working for the Soul Cube. The origin of the signal was an artifact which opens a portal to hell when it's picked up by a soldier. This artifact plays a different role so when Betruger realizes it has fallen in the hands of a human, he unleashes three powerful demons to retrieve it. This is how the new chapter begins and I bet all of you are now wondering why this artifact is so useful. Well, each time one of the three Hunters dies, some of their power is transferred to the artifact. The three abilities are called Hell Time, Berserker and Invulnerability and they have a very powerful impact over the gameplay.

Unfortunately, Resurrection of Evil lasts less than the original title (only 12 chapters), but you have to deal with the same type of atmosphere with corpses and blood everywhere. It's been 2 years since the incident from the original title and it looks like nothing's changed. Some of the game's elements made me consider the add-on a lot better than its parent. The weapons and the monsters more polished and the double barrel shotgun has quickly become my favorite. When I discovered this weapon, back in Erebus Level 3, I really felt I could finish the game just by using it because the imps and the Vulgars where instantly pulverized by it. Unfortunately, this weapon cannot cover big distances, so you should only use it for a close encounter. For longer distances try to use the machine gun and always be careful how and when you change the weapons or switch between a weapon and the flashlight. Most of the players complained about the dark atmosphere, but I don't think that you'd feel the same if your character would have a flashlight and a weapon equipped in the same time. Anyway, that's only an opinion so you should play as you please (there’s a mod adding a flashlight to your weapon). One of the most interesting weapons is the Grabber Gun and even if it is implemented after the one from Half-Life 2, it's feels nicer when playing with it because the Doom 3 physics is clearly better implemented than HL2's one. Besides the fact that you can play with it by moving corpses, notebooks or any other objects from the Doom world, the game is scripted in such a way that you need to use this weapon when killing the first Hell Hunter. You must grab the plasma from the turrets and redirect it to the Hunter. Not more than five shots will knock him down.
